Long before men worshipped books,
The eternal flame stood
Dancing signs of sacred energy:
Divine birds alighting upon
Nests of grass & wood,
Bright force flapping wings of heat.
Light-dark waves bobbing us together in action
Unite, consume and subsume our lives.
Fire is the original holy text,
An endlessly unfurling scroll
All our legends are told around:
A Torch in dark caverns of the Mind.
We breathe air to burn and
With these forking tongues of Spirit,
Lick the Words of God!
