“Drive This Corpse To Work” by David Mellor

BY DAVID MELLOR

Drive this corpse to work
Over the cliff
And into the abyss

“Mr ……. I know you are at present hurtling towards your imminent doom, but could you please send that report. PS sorry to hear about your tragic news”

Drive the corpse to work
Check it’s got a pulse
On return

“Dear passenger I’m sorry to say
But we need to take a detour”
Collective groans..
“we’re going to Majorca”
“Yes Yippee…….”

Drive this corpse to work
Check it’s got a pulse
And doesn’t return

“Would all passengers
Please throw all
Work mobiles into the sea
Thank you”

Drive the corpse to work
Check it’s got a pulse.
And
Return….

Born 1964, (Liverpool, England) difficult birth, didn’t find my voice until my youth. Years of thinking I was nobody and treated as such. However, hit the paper papering over the scars. Found understanding and belief through words. I have been published and performed widely from the BBC, The Tate, galleries and pubs and everything in between.
