“Florida” by Ruth Crossman

BY RUTH CROSSMAN

I’ve never been
“it’s a strange place” he says
he has an eagle tattoo on his shoulder
in my mind I see the map, the whole state is tinted green
Florida men get their pictures in the paper for all the wrong reasons
I heard you can buy a new kind of PCP for like five dollars
and they make these amateur pornos down in Miami left and right
his vowels get thicker with every can
somehow that makes me wet
but kind of queasy at the same time
