DEAR LOS ANGELES / ISSUE 3: WINTER 2016 / LOS ANGELES POETS / POETRY

“The City Below” by A. Razor

BY A. RAZOR

when you are in it, deep

in its streets, folded

into the masses

like a lone

ingredient

a particle

that creates

the mass of the whole

then you can lose the

perspective you will

need to keep the

spirit that it will

take to keep

something

away from

all the grasping hands

all the hooking eyes

all the following

footfalls

trying to climb up out of

this quagmire of humanity

trying to separate

yourself

from this loneliness

inside the throng

of activity that

covers you up

as long as you move along

at the pace that keeps up

with the rhythm & throb

of the heartless beast

that consumes you

with every step

you take

until

finally

you stumble & fall

for the last time

only to become

an angel on high

lost above this city

forever

A. Razor is real, he is not playing himself on TV. Don’t do what I do, stay in school. Co-Founder of Punk Hostage Press and Words As Works Literary Outreach Programs. Currently homeless, but still writing.
