DRYLAND (DL): When did you first pick up a camera?
LJ: The first time I picked up a camera with the intention of making a film was in 2009 when I went to the Middle East to make my first documentary feature film (or any kind of film for that matter) “Voice of the Valley.” It’s about two women, citizen journalists who come from a very rural, tribal, and conservative Muslim community in Jordan. I shot it on a Sony Camcorder with only in camera sound and without crew.
